Conversion Confidential #5: Spring time business dilemmas, the 10% tilt, Rick & Morty make you money and more!
Spring is here — and everyone’s into the flow of 2022…
It’s around this time that you start to address the teething problems of your yearly goals.
Case in point, my goal in 2022 was to blow up Your Conversion Partners.
I had spent the last quarter of 2021 getting systems and automations in place…
Training and hiring…
And generally setting the groundwork to serve clients to the best of our ability.
The result: we blew up.
But then came new challenges — the teething problems…
Between being involved in every copy project and handling all the operations (this latter role I find VERY draining)…
I realized that I had begun to spend too much time “in” the business.
The solution?
We’re about 6 weeks into hiring a head of operations…
And I’m now in the market for a copy chief (if you think that could be you and you’re able to write financial, hit me up: chris@yourconversion.partners).
The end result won’t be to remove me from the business — I’ll still be involved in our copy projects — but it will free up space to work “on” Your Conversion Partners…
Which is better for EVERYONE…
Because it means I can train my writers to become even better than they already are… develop new product lines for clients… percolate on new split test ideas… and so on.
Of course, this wasn’t an easy or obvious solution…
It took stress, saunas and the gentle pushing of my high performance coach, Monique Lindner.
Which is why I’m telling you this story…
Because the chances are, you’re facing a challenge right now that you’re leaving unaddressed.
If you’re anything like me, you think you can “out work” it.
When really you need to change your thinking and look for a better solution instead.
I don’t know what your situation is…
But I’ll leave you with a quote that I found very enlightening on this topic…
“Perhaps change only takes place when there is sufficient reason to overcome the inertia of everyday life. Challenging situations create the force needed to bring about change.”
― Mickey A. Singer, The Surrender Experiment: My Journey into Life's Perfection
Okay…
Let’s get into this month’s issue of Conversion Confidential. Below you’ll discover…
The 10% tilt: this is a deadly mistake that can show up in your copy (especially if you’re working on tight deadlines). It slides in, under the radar… and although it’s subtle, it can leave a promising piece of copy writhing on this floor. Luckily for you, I explain what the 10% tilt is — and how you can identify it…
How Rick and Morty will add $$$ to your AOV (AKA, new problem framing for better upsells): As a copywriter or business owner, you’re used to making BIG promises on the frontend to get that initial sale. The problem? This makes it really hard to have a congruent and effective upsell flow. But fear not; I’ll show you how Rick and Morty can help you put customers into new problems… that force them to buy — without creating any regret around their previous purchases…
Take your audience out to dinner first; relate & get paid: On any date, you’re going to be given little openings to connect. Maybe it’s a conversational topic or the classic “I’m cold” request to come closer. And it’s the same in copy — your audience WANTS you to connect with them. They want you to prove you understand them. Which is why any piece of copy will always give YOU the opportunity to connect with your audience throughout. I’ll show you how to spot these moments and how to do it…
Enjoy!
