Conversion Confidential #6: Stop creating resistance in your copy, writing flow and becoming your client's go-to copywriter.
Yesterday I was talking to a new mentee in my Advanced Mentoring Group about Elon Musk.
(I can feel you eye-rolling already but I’m NOT going to be giving you any Twitter takes.)
Specifically, we were talking about how Musk works 80 hours weeks and has achieved so much… and how this mentee feels guilt that he isn’t doing the same.
In response, I left a passionate Loom video.
Long story short: you need to remember to enjoy life as well.
I couldn’t find the clip then — and I can’t find it now — but when Musk was on Joe Rogan last he was asked the question along the lines of “why do so many people want to be you?”
Musk’s answer was downright depressing…
He seemed exhausted and miserable…
He said they wouldn’t want to be him. Constant anxiety. Constantly on.
At that moment, Musk was taken off the pedestal.
I can’t deny his achievements (and my personal opinion is that there’s few others doing so much to push humanity forward… reusable rockets, man).
But I wouldn’t want to be him.
Now, I can’t say whether he enjoys life or not…
And obviously we all enjoy running our businesses…
Yet anything you spend too long doing becomes something you resent.
Especially when you’re doing it at the expense of other actives you enjoy.
There’s a balance.
Not work/life balance like many corporates preach (or don’t preach).
But a balance between pouring out (work) and filling up (rejuvenating activities).
You need to find this balance to maintain your productivity, output, and so on…
But also to maintain your general life satisfaction.
So don’t be guilt-tripped into working all the time by others who are bragging about their 80 hour workweeks…
Don’t be pushed into working weekends by the irrational fear you’re slipping behind the pack…
And definitely don’t think you’re Superman who can hustle, hustle, hustle without any repercussions like burnout.
The truth is, everything you want to achieve can be achieved by intense focus when you are working… and also by being smart about what you work on vs delegating.
Right, let’s talk about my month and Conversion Confidential…
A busy April for me.
I’ve been working on some really great client projects that I can’t wait to see in the “wild”.
I’ve also been hiring for two important roles that will allow me to better serve my clients and mentees.
AND I also took a week off to recharge.
This recharge looked like: lots of saunas and ice baths, lots of football (soccer) watched, installing my bee colony into their hive, reading plenty and taking care of my pooch after her foot operation (nothing too serious).
As for this month’s issue of Conversion Confidential, here’s what you’ve got to look forward to…
Don’t fight the resistance. It’s copywriting 101… make sure your copy solves all buying objections and smooths out the process. BUT, you’d be shocked by how often copywriters unwittingly create the resistance in their own copy! We’re going deep on this common mistake even advanced copywriters make — and I’ll show you how to fix it. The end result? Copy that flows like a stream from the headline all the way to the Thank You page.
Writing flow in research-intense niches. You can tell when copy is written out of flow. It’s janky. Doesn’t find it’s rhythm. And often doesn’t work. The problem is, it' can be hard to find flow when so much of your copy requires research. What can be done? I show you the way…
Become your client’s go-to copywriter with this one simple technique. Copywriters live and die by their results — but there’s also another little-known value that clients evaluate their writers on. If you can demonstrate this value, you can become your client’s go-to… so that every time they need copy, you’re the first name on the list. It’s so simple, I’m surprised I even have to write about it. But SO MANY don’t do this…
Enjoy!
